Listen to this show and you will be happy
99% of me just wants to answer “EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeppppppp!” But that’s not very descriptive, since you can’t see my hands flailing or the warm glow emanating from my heart over the Internet. So I’ll try words. The show is set on a space station orbiting the star Wolf 359. The crew is sent up there for a scientific mission funded by the military and a corporation, but this is a shadowy, probably evil corporation that Strexcorp would likely approve of. Mandatory morale-boosting talent shows, insufficient toothpaste for the expedition duration, and we’re pretty sure the whole “scientific mission” is a cover for something much more sinister. But we don’t have time to figure out what that is. WE HAVE TO FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHT TO THE LAST TUBE OF TOOTHPASTE. We’ve got a cast of 4ish characters. Doug Eiffel is our Communications Officer and for most of the first season, he’s the lens we see the show through. He’s a slacker who likes making pop culture references and refuses to take things seriously, unless they’re important things like avoiding his physical exam or discussing his deep emotional attachment to pizza. Then we have Dr. Hilbert, who is an (evil?) Russian scientist doing experiments of dubious morality, probably on the rest of the crew. We have Hera, an incorporeal artificial intelligence who spends her time trying get around her programming and describing Eiffel as a “fragile, carbon-based, uncomfortably liquid body“. She’s snarky as hell and she’s my baby who must be protected at all costs. Finally, we have Minkowski, who is a by-the-book ship commander with an over-reliance on the Pryce and Carter Deep Space Survival Procedure Protocol Manual (complete with 1001 tips!) and a secret love of musical theater. The characters develop as the show progresses - oh my goodness do they develop - but that would be telling. The show starts a bit slow, a kinda “monster of the week” deal. (One of them is a mutant space plant who achieves sentence, so that’s amazing.) But that’s just setting the scene so that when it gets plot-heavy, all the elements are in place. Personally, I went from “this show is enjoyable” to “this show has consumed my soul and I don’t even want it back” at episode 11, but a lot of people report that it happened at episode 9 for them. This podcast is amazing. Funny and suspensful at the same time. I listen to it at work and can't wait for the next episode... which is coming out today... Also, it reminds me a little of Futurama if it were a radio show. Also, my dad said it reminds him of tuning in to some Davey Crockett...Read full review »

Way more fun than I expected, and I had very high expectations after hearing so many recommendations. Definitely worth following as closely as possible.

I love this show, I can’t wait for more, and I’m usually thrown a bit. Everything I think is going to happen isn’t right, and I’m surprised constantly with this show. I love that, it’s wonderful. It’s actually creepy, and a couple of the episodes gave me goosebumps in the best way while I was...Read full review »
