Lisa Daniel hosts Word for Word on JOY 94.9 and her guest is Michael Dalton.
Born in the UK, Michael’s professional career began as a 10-year-old when he played the title role in the 1980 West End production of Oliver! After his family immigrated to Australia in the 80s, Michael played various roles on television in shows such as Neighbours and The Henderson Kids and in 1990, Michael began his relationship with The Rocky Horror Picture Show, performing in and staying with the production as it toured Australia, New Zealand the UK and Europe.
Michael subsequently toured with Julian Clary as his backup singer on his Australian/New Zealand/UK tours and also toured with Richard O’Brien and Disgracefully Yours to the Edinburgh Festival in 1997. Since then Michael has worked steadily as a solo singer/performer internationally at a huge variety of clubs, venues and corporate events.
Highlights include his own solo shows at Oscar Wilde’s (New York), Madame Jo Jo’s (London) and Code (Copenhagen).
Michael also appeared in the 1998 West End production of Naked Boys Singing.
In the late 90s Michael created the much-loved character Dolly Diamond, and has performed with her across the UK and Australia.
For the last three years Michael has worked as a television presenter on various shopping channels in the UK including: Bid TV, Price Drop TV, Speed Auction TV and his recent Australian television appearances include Gay News Week and Studio Q Channel 31.
Michael is part of Melbourne’s cultural fabric and LGBTIQA+ not-for-profits have benefited from his generosity for decades.
