Chinese President Xi Jinping has just attended the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana and paid state visits to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. Among a series of documents on cooperation in energy, investment and more, the SCO meeting adopted the Astana Declaration, which reaffirmed commitment to building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind. What's the significance of the SCO Astana Summit? Why does Central Asia matter for China, and vice versa?
