The mysterious disappearance this week of the leading opposition voice inside Russia is not a surprise to many. Alexei Navalny was an outspoken lawyer, crusading against corruption and dictators. It shows a ruthlessness in dealing with any potential threats inside Russia. For the LGBT community, there has been an exodus from Russia. The fear the outcomes of Russia’s expanding anti-LGBT propaganda laws, which effectively ban any public mention of same-sex relations, and the demonstrated ruthlessness of the government in dealing with any perceived opposition, mean that leaving is an act of survival. On this podcast, we speak to Executive Director in exile of Coming Out SPB, Aleksandr Voronov.
