“Sometimes I watch a movie and cannot quite figure out why it did or didn’t work. I know how I “feel” about a film, but pinpointing the structural reason for its success or failure is (for me) often elusive. When I listen to these podcasts I have many “Aha” moments. The content of the each podcast is so smart and coherent; it’s a great course on the structure of films. Regardless of how/why you watch films (as an average viewer or as a filmmaker), the podcasts are all fascinating.
As a wanna-be screenwriter, I find the way the films are broken down in these podcasts gives me great insight for my own writing. Understanding why a film works or doesn’t work structurally gives me a more complete understanding of the issues I face as a filmmaker and helps me write better scripts.
