“Questions: What do you think about the way Storm got her powers back? Does the metaphor work? What do you think Mr. Sinister is a metaphor for or symbol of? In the context of the 90s, do you think he’s a reference to the anxieties around cloning and technological advancing? Or is he an even older reference to ideas of eugenics? For some reason, he’s a villain who I can never place in terms of metaphor or symbology.
Storm’s storyline might be thing that bothers me the most about this season - Storm always seems to get short-changed in these adaptations and it’s quite heart wrenching.
I can’t help but wonder if the season had better outlined Storm feeling tired even before her powers were stripped away that we might better understand the trauma and mental battles she later faces. What if it was more clear that the Professor’s absence had taken a toll on Storm mentally and physically - leading the team, keeping it together, and highlight that perhaps without her powers things might be easier because she was so so tired. I completely agree with Mary that Storm getting her powers back needed to amount to something - she feels so absent. What isn’t she in episode seven??? My goodness, she’s Storm, Mistress of the Elements!”
