To jump the gun = 操之過急, which has its origins from sports. 這句話來自於體育運動。Some translation tools will translate this into, "one step ahead", but they don't exactly mean the same thing. 一些翻譯程序會將其翻譯為“領先一步”，但它們的含義並不完全相同。 The origin of the idiom "jump the gun" traces back to early 1900s track and field races, where a gun is fired to signal the start of a race. A runner who begins running before the race has been started has "jumped the gun".
