“Hello, John and Jared.
I was planning to go to China this summer for one month of immersion learning until the coronavirus ruined everything. Out comes plan B. I signed up for lessons on iTalki and am making friends in China using HelloTalk. I found that HelloTalk is a good way to communicate and get instant feedback. Topics you’ve mentioned such as comprehensible input have been invaluable to me as I’m discussing various topics with my online friends. Some of my friends want to improve their English reading skills, so I put what I’ve learned from Mandarin Companion to good use and got recommendations from Jared to provide English extensive reading materials. One friend is reading “Charlotte’s Web” to me, I provide corrections. I’m reading a Chinese Breeze graded reader, an my friend corrects my pronunciation. Don’t worry guys, the next graded reader will be one of yours! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on language acquisition. They are not only taking my Mandarin up a notch, but they are helping people learn English too. Keep up the great work!”
