“as an everyday tech consumer and millennial, i have experienced and witnessed firsthand the devastating effects the amorality and neutrality of the tech industry has caused in the lives of individuals and society at large. this is a great overview of the bigger picture and presents the info in a very accessible way, and presents insightful questions for listeners to consider. i am so grateful that people are using their platforms to have these kinds of conversations.
if i could suggest one thing, it would be to devote an entire episode to the effects this is having on the mental health of individuals and the way that the mental health industry is encouraging folks to blame themselves or blame a disorder for the ways tech has affected them. the first ep talks about how gambling addicts have a 20% suicide rate. a huge chunk of our society, especially my generation, are now full blown internet addicts. the rise of mental health issues in recent years, from eating disorders and body dysmorphia to ADHD, personality and mood disorders, cannot be a coincidence. in reality (i think), neuroses is a normal and proportionate reaction to the environment my generation was raised in. we are being made to feel that we are fundamentally defective on a personal level and very few people are examining the bigger picture. social media is literally killing people. how can the tech industry team up with the healthcare industry to combat these effects?”
