“I’ve listened to nearly episode and have a love/hate relationship with this podcast. There are some gems and touchstone moments but it’s often mired up by the rest of it.
The title of the podcast is supposed to be provocative and signal that the guys aren’t like the other WeHo/Cosmopolitan gays, but the fact is that the title is a projection of minor self-loathing as the guys are often just like the gays they’re deriding. I hope that it is intentionally ironic, but I’m not an optimist.
The podcast is broken up into three sections. In the first section the guys discuss an article on a (not so) current event that has already been covered ad nauseam by most gay outlets the week before. Can’t really blame them too much for this though, as the episodes are prerecorded. Sometimes the article is a click bait article (clearly selected by Elliot) that gets shot down by one of the other hosts. Often times it’s an article of political importance, with Brent or H. Allen (both having a great deal of political knowledge) shedding some great insight on the issue.
The second one generally has a comedian come in to talk about an issue or topic related to them: Pets, Professional Wrestling, True Crime, etc. This section can be a bit of a crapshoot. Sometimes it’s interesting and hilarious, but it’s success is often on the shoulders of the guest.
The third is usually about a random crapshoot topic: the beach, beer, hiking, etc. Where guys give their take on these issues. I believe the show had its most real and important moment here, when the guys talked about their body image issues. Body dysmorphia plagues a lot of gay men and it was great to see this issue highlighted and how it related to the guys and how it effected their day to day habits.
The show ends with witticisms from the guys pretending to be their aunts giving one liners about the episode.
If any of this sounds like something you’d enjoy listening to, give it a go. Start with the most recent episode as the guys do cover current events and the older ones may feel even further out of code date.”
