Movie stuff okay, the rest not so much
I only listened to two episodes, the first and the last. The film stuff is fun and interesting, but the wholesale discounting of Haitian folklore as the foundation of zombies in film (the first episode) was pretty shocking. Sure, they're not the zombies we know and love now, but they are the foundation, and since we're talking about the evolution of a monster in cinema, it might be worthwhile asking why we see the changes we've seen through the years. The cannibalism episode really could have benefitted from some anthropological research. The stuff about grossing people out by eating brains, and narrative problems associated with brain eating as method of monster generation was great, but the casual, fragmented, incomplete, and in some cases inaccurate information about cannibalistic practices was really disappointing. I kept saying "citation needed" to my computer. I don't think this podcast is for me.
