Something a little different for you this month as we go back over old ground and reopen our discussion around mindset v experience to 3 more amazing humans from within the IOH membership.
Phil was joined by Christopher White AIH, Simon Coulson MIH and Peter Hancock FIH. As always, our guests gave us some brilliant reasons to say I’m in to the IOH including: -
To be seen as a player in the industryTo have letters after your name adds to credibility and is a mark of professionalismGiving and receiving of help throughout the industryNetworkingSharing of informationTo connect to networks around the world
In discussing whether having a mature mindset can achieve the same results as experience, Phil and his guests got through a lot including: -
Maturity is nothing to do with ageBeing attitude centric plays into the hands of what makes you successful in hospitalityGetting your behaviours into a mature and constant place can really help you in leadershipMaturity & experience can go hand in hand, one can inform the otherCircumstance can dictate your response, sometimes it’s a “I have no choice” approachThere will always be times where you have no experience in a particular area so your mindset informs your response hereThere’s an argument that amid the staffing issues we experience, we should be recruiting for attitude and worry about the experience laterToo much experience can get in the way of changeIf you don’t have the answers, that’s OK - having a mature mindset to that will help you progressTrust is so important in order to give the individual the opportunity to have the right mindset towards situations that arisePut yourself in unknown situations (which is inevitable anyway) and you’ll be more ready for the future when the unknown hits you
A huge thank you to our guests for giving up their time and opinion.
Enjoy!
