Description
Today’s episode is pulled from one of the 10,000 NOs Insiders Community’s weekly Zooms and it’s very specific: it was recorded the day after the first Let’s Shoot the Rehearsal Weekend-Intensive On-Camera Retreat we put on in New York City.
I was fired up after it’s success. And it led to this conversation with our members about something that I’m asked about all the time from young actors and artists-in-general: they say, “I can’t get any traction.” Or “I can’t get started.” Or… if they’re someone who is attempting to develop material for themselves, they say, “My writing’s not that great… I’m waiting til it’s in better shape to share it with people.” …
So, I’m sharing this because it exposes the fact that our weekend-intensive was uncomfortable for me, and yet… along with Adam Smith Jr and his wife Lorna, of The Brownstone Class in NYC, we felt like we had something unique and cool to offer people , so we pulled the trigger… and figured it out, much to our attendees pleasure.
So that’s what I want you to hear: any time you stretch outside your comfort zone, whether it’s sharing your writing with classmates, signing up for an acting class, or seeking out auditions or representation… just do it.
Stop being so precious. And just do it. You’ll figure it out. I’d much rather see you swing and miss than never know if you had what it took.
10,000 NOs podcast is now in it’s 2.0 phase: after a long pause from late 2021 to late 2023, it has returned in a more raw format: shorter episodes, like the Monday Morsels of yesteryear (they may be short, solo riffs by Matt on central themes of the pod, excerpts from Matt’s 10,000 NOs Insiders Community Zooms, or excerpts from Insiders VIP sessions with VIPs from the entertainment interview and beyond). Be on the look out as, every now and then, we will likely drop some old school, long-form, classic 10,000 NOs interviews as bonus episodes.

The intent of this podcast is to remind people that they are not alone in their struggles. We aim to educate & inspire you with stories and conversations with others who have traveled a path that may look enviable now, but it was not always that way.
It is not the critic who counts. If you’ve been knocked down... get up, dust yourself off, and get back in the arena. If you want to give back, share this with someone who could use it and leave a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen, so more people find this show and benefit from these conversations.

“And that’s a little bit of our conundrum: Acting is our number one thing, but that’s very up and down. So how much do you just wait and put everything into Acting? And how much are you doing things with the down time? And can those be the same thing?”

“There’s nothing better: you negotiate the deal and you start thinking and planning your life… and about two weeks before I was meant to go, I get the call: the European studio backed out, they’re scrapping the entire project, it’s over.”
Today’s special episode is a sit down with my old friend...
