This is my go to favourite podcast for short fiction. I really like the narration style of giving the characters different voices rather than using fake accents. I am trying not to burn through the episodes too quickly but I can always start over at the beginning when I run out of episodes. It’s...Read full review »

John Hagedorn is a wonderful and sincere narrator, and the short stories he selects are heartwarming. I look forward to listening each week and am never disappointed! Thanks! Catherine

As a busy mom who doesn’t have as much time to read as I would like, this podcast is a God-send! I often listen with my young children (4, 6, 8) who also enjoy!

Having a difficult time reading for reasons beyond my control, I am grateful for this salvation. In times gone by, I was an avid reader and always enjoyed the unveiling of the story. Now, I find the same pleasure in listening to Jon’s readings. Five Stars and accolades galore!

This is one of my favorite podcast. There’s a lot of material so it’s OK to binge it and I listen to it when I mow or drive - the stories are fantastic and well chosen. Update: I loved the Wise man story.

I stumbled across 1001 Short Stories & Tales podcast about a year ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve never been much of a reader so having this podcast has been an eye-opening experience to all the great writers and classic short story literature out there. Jon is not only a great...Read full review »

The reader allows the listener to imagine there own details surrounding the story. Not clouded with superfluous music and “effects” which can distract the listener from the intent of the original authors. Keep up the great work

Such a great podcast! I don't subscribe to many, but 1001 Classic Short Stories and Tales is one. Though I like to read, I had largely forgotten about the authors of the past. But Jon has brought life to many authors whom I had known by name, but not by their work. The Robin Hood stories...Read full review »

Many stories are of value, but they often seem chosen from the same limited sets of authors, presumably those the amateur curator is familiar with, and often covering very minor, inferior stories by authors who also had a few great ones rather than trying to cover more truly great works by a...Read full review »

As a younger member of society, I sometimes fear I will be trapped in a time isolated from the past and our rich culture. This podcast relieves my worries as it is a cultural library in its own right. Many of our culture’s secret and high-quality literary works can be found right here.

Jon - I don’t know how you manage to find all of these gems! Great story and narrated with enthusiasm. It was obvious that you enjoyed the story as much of those of us who were listening. Thanks for the great work.

Looked for well told stories with quality sound — found this on a search for “stories” on Apple’s iTunes Podcasts. I’ve clicked “follow” and have added auto downloads. I’ll also check in on Spotify as that helps me when listening thru my Amazon Alexa speaker. Thank you, John Hagadorn, for your...Read full review »

Five stars hardly seems like enough for the entire 1001 podcast network! I spend many long hours in a tractor on the farm and Mr. Hagedorn’s works make the time go by much more enjoyably. I download a large selection from all of the 1001 podcast family and listen to my heart’s content all day...Read full review »

John, I have always liked the stories of O. Henry. You got the spirit of the tale if how a kids held two grown men hostage ending up with them having to pay Red Chief’s father to take his kid off their hands. Well read, Don

I thoroughly enjoy listening to the stories especially the older ones that are not so popular. Our culture is desperate for the values in times gone by. There have been books I haven’t been able to get through with other narrators. Mr Jon Hagadorn has made formerly uninteresting classics captivating for me. I’ve never quit a book when it’s read by him!

In his preamble to the Jack London story “The Unparalleled Invasion “ the host states that the Covid virus was released from a lab in Wuhon, China. There is no evidence that this is true, yet he states it like it is a fact. The host should stick to just introducing the stories.

The background music is too loud and I can’t hear the stories. There is no reason to have music competing with the narration.
