Potted history and then some
This is a potted history if the days leading up to WW1, using commentary and snippets from original news broadcasts. It shows not just how the war was brewing, but interestingly how, when Ferdinand and his wife were killed, Britain was much more concerned with political troubles in Ireland and elsewhere. It picks up the obvious key facts, and throws in things you probably didn't know, so it's never dull. The episodes are short, but the BBC dumped about 1 minute of notices at the start and end of most of them, which is annoying. Other than that, which is easily fixed with a bit of editing, this is a series well worth keeping.Read full review »

More reviews of 1914: Day by Day
This series is excellent but with later episodes the BBC have stupidly ruined these 3 minute podcasts by adding 40 seconds promoting their other offerings on the First World War. Why add this to each episode? It gets irritating very quickly and is disproportionate given the episodes' length.Read full review »

Brilliant. Insightful, concise and provides great detail about the public feeling at that time. But where are the omnibus editions to download?

Terrific content but with each episode only about 4 minutes and 2 of those are ads, we only get 2 minutes of actual content
