“This fairly new show still has a lot of potential. I feel compelled to remove one star, though, because of the less-than-stellar recent episode with guest host Mary Zimmer from Voice Hacks. The guests are usually pretty funny; she wasn't, but any humor may have been overridden by her vocal fry and overuse of the word “like.” I counted 10 “likes” in just one of her sentences.
The first 20 minutes of the episode wasn’t about the Bradys at all, but about this unknown Mary Zimmer, whom I didn’t care about at all. It felt like so much wasted time. Then, when they finally got around to discussing the episode, they somehow still got off track a couple of times to talk about Mary yet again!
At one point, they debated for several minutes about whether all of the Bradys’ eyes were blue. I was screaming “Yes!” Why couldn’t they have muted the mics for a second to look this up rather than waste even more time debating? The host then pulled out a rather tired joke by now—one in which, in his retelling of the episode narrative, one of the Bradys will tell another family member, “Well, f*** you!” It was funny the first time or two, but it’s getting a bit stale.
I know this sounds like a lot of complaints, but I really do think this pod has potential. The other guests have been solid; I think this may have just been a one-off guest who really didn’t contribute much beyond droning on about herself. I have a feeling it will improve, as long as a focus on The Brady Bunch is maintained—thus, it gets 4 stars from me.”Read full review »
