“Just listened to the Halloween episode and quite annoyed by the woman host saying it’s “disappointing” that pumpkin carving originated in America. Why? Why can’t some traditions originate in places other than Britain? And I say this as a Brit. But I appreciated the very knowledgeable guest pushing back against the host’s assertion that it’s become “performative” (again blaming Americans) by explaining that it was always performative and somewhat commercial, and that holidays need to be commercialised in order to survive in the modern age. Still, the clear bias of the host is enough to put me off listening.”
