Anthony and Maddie do a great job of not only telling the stories but setting the scene of the period and what else was going on at the time. Keep up the good work guys.

Titanic episode great until truly awful readings of eyewitness accounts. Not hard to find decent actors surely?

I discovered After Dark last week after seeing an ad on Instagram (they are good for something) and I've been hooked ever since. Maddy and Anthony are so good as a pair and are great at setting an atmosphere for each episode. I am left so interested in what they have spoken about I find...Read full review »

If Anthony and Maddy had taught me history I reckon I’d have gone on to study past GCSE! Absolutely brilliant podcast. Learnt more from these guys than my whole school experience. Fascinating stories and holistic look at the people and periods in history. Guests are fantastic. Faultless podcast.

Dark History is hands down my favourite podcast. Maddy and Anthony expertly combine historical fact with atmospherical story telling.

Can’t get enough of After Dark. Maddy and Anthony are such great hosts, and the subjects of the episodes are presented with nuance and consideration for listeners and the actual people they feature, as well as (dark, obvs) humour.

I recently discovered this podcast & I’m so glad I did — the topics and stories that Anthony & Maddy tell are right up my street. I especially love social history & historical crime & they are both so well covered. There are a lot of references to Newgate Prison but I haven’t...Read full review »

I love the way this podcast brings true crime events from the past to life well providing a contextual setting. They treat the subject with sensitivity and awareness that they are talking about real peoples lives and deaths, but also add an element of drama to make it vibrant and interesting.

Listened to every episode. Look forward to getting another. The chemistry of the two of them really adds to the excellent research, their ease in tackling taboo subjects and quality production. Bravo.

This podcast is so good that I’m writing a review, which I never do! It is well-done, interesting, and much more educated than the majority of crime podcasts that are out there. If you like true crime but worry you’re rotting your brain by listening to your typical podcasts, give this one a listen.

Well researched; told with warmth, intelligence ( love how they often weave in political and moral analysis expanding the listeners thinking) and excellent story telling skills! If you like the gory ö but not the tacky this is the show!

I absolutely love this podcast. The hosts treat their tales of the dark and macabre in such a sensitive yet entertaining way. This is definitely my favourite history podcast of the lot!

These two could make a description of paint drying interesting. Both are excellent historians and their enthusiasm for their topics is infectious. I am loving this show.

Your not responsible for reporting on historical stories with a 21st century woke perspective. I am tired of the constant insistence of feminist ideals and the insistence women are under some constant sexual violence. Get a grip and tell the story you have no responsibilities here.

I’ve subscribed to a lot of the History Hit podcasts and they are all excellent but After Dark is by far my favourite. They are fascinating to listen to and deal with a side of life that I suspect most of us, on the quiet, find fascinating. I know I do. Thank you for providing them and I look...Read full review »

My newest binge-listen! Dr. Delaney and Dr. Pelling are both erudite and engaging. I love how the stories are examined in their historical context, and how the insights gained can inform our experience today. Definitely recommend!

I regularly listen to several of the History Hit podcasts, but this topic never appealed to me. After listening to a couple episodes, though, I found myself absolutely addicted! Both of the hosts are fantastic and the scripted sections are captivating.

Listened to quite a few episodes and enjoyed them but listened to the Harry Potter episode and about the folklore of the creatures. Love the passion the two hosts have for history and how they bring various elements to life with great story-tellling. They have a great way of not taking them too seriously as well which makes listening very easy. Fantastic work!

Sadly a lot of this is very biased and frankly incorrect. The bias follows the Inquiry of the Mutiny where Christian’s powerful Naval backers made sure he came out better than Bligh- mainly as Bligh had ’lost’ an RN ship. The views expressed do not give justice to the unquestionable ability of...Read full review »

Some really interesting topics covered, but from such a revisionist point of view. Everything is assessed in terms of whether it’s racist or based on gender or misplaced ideas of masculinity - all very 2024!
