I love this dark, yet still lighthearted, take on history. The hosts feel fresh and modern rather than listening to a stuffy old professor. I find it quite funny that it has been given some bad reviews for being “woke”! Leave us little snowflakes to enjoy this podcast and go listen to one of the...Read full review »

Really enjoy listening to the more historical perspectives on well known and lesser well known chilling takes. Only wish the male presenter would stop going ‘yeah yeah’ every other second each time the other presenter is making a point. Stop interjecting with your thinking process.

The hosts and guests really bring the characters in history come to life. Its refreshing to hear the passionate love of history coming from such an accessible angle. Often it can be stuffy and dull but not at After Dark. I only wish the podcasts were longer. I could listen to them talk history...Read full review »

Sad how anti American presenters are. Also really hate the talking down on anyone not on political left. Interesting topics but I think I’ll look elsewhere.

Good because of how they talk but its good

Really enjoy the format of the episodes. The content and guests are really interesting. Like both hosts too.

Normally absolutely love all History Hit podcasts. But I found this one troublesome. It seemed to skip over the fact that Hamilton raped at least one women, possibly more (used false representations to trick into them into an intimate relationship). But because they were queer they are seen as...Read full review »

I was rather excited to listen to this episode, but as someone who lives in the Pacific North West and is familiar with the rich indigenous storytelling of Sasquatch I was very disappointed at how little you covered it. Rock drawings and that’s it? So many stories out there you could have...Read full review »

I tried one episode (Bigfoot) and the constant joking and bantering between the hosts was childish. You aren’t funny, can you understand this? The fake over the top emphasis on laughing at every single one of your own jokes and supposedly witty comments is not entertaining. Get over yourselves....Read full review »

Great concept and subjects, but far too much time spent on theorising why people believe things rather than actual detail on the stories

An absolutely amazing podcast. So interesting and always with a unique viewpoint. Makes the journey home and waking the dogs so much more interesting. Thank you!

I love this podcast, it’s my go to when I’m travelling, out walking or just want to zone out but learn and enjoy the stories and facts. 100% recommend, a must listen!

My fav podcast ever. Topics are so varied, hosts so likeable and eloquent. I look forward to every episode

Love the way these episodes are run: story-chat-story-chat etc. Fun to listen to.

So interesting, so insightful, Anthony and Maddy bring history to life and tie these historic acts to present day. Love this show

I can count on great guests, interesting questions, and learning something new. I look forward to each new episode and know it will feed my fascination with history off the beaten path.

Oh my aren’t we posh maddy.. except why is an art historian an expert on general history?? To me her pompous accent is totally unsuited to her ambitions.. why is she not working on a art history podcast? Oh cause there boring and don’t exist maybe. The series started well but recently the content has been lacking. For example the episode on the “real Dracula” had few historical facts and little information on Vlad Tepes and spent more time talking about Twilight. Opinions about why historical characters did what they did from the non-expert...Read full review »

Both the two presenters are very personable and good to listen to. It is clear that they are not generalists and their lack of understanding of areas surrounding their topics grinds a little once in a while. But, they don’t claim knowledge they don’t have so that’s okay. The Irish perspective...Read full review »

I am huge History Hit Network fan…I subscribe to ALL their podcasts and am a huge fan of each and every one of them. And this one is no exception. I love the hosts…and this is one of the only podcasts in the HH network that my teen daughters ask me to play on car rides to and from school. One of...Read full review »

Could be so interesting, but seems irredeemably superficial to me. Every episode quickly descends into woke tosh.

These episodes are quite good fun but would be so much better if they swapped out the hosts for a couple who have any depth of historical talent or clout. They draw heavily on secondary sources, other people’s books, films, previously told tales - basically they come across as though they spend...Read full review »

Should be so interesting, but I find a myopia to the psychological states of people in history. Often a failure of empathy and imagination. Can’t listen anymore.
Prufrockian via Apple Podcasts · Germany · 03/16/24
The topics discussed are right up my street so I always have a listen. The problem is the presenters, the depth of knowledge is non existent and so each episode is punctuated by vacuous comments. I am fed up with hearing that what is fascinating is “what the story tells us about the role of women...Read full review »

I love your show, but Betty Hill was only 42 at the time of the alleged abduction, so your speculation that she was past childbearing age is probably incorrect.

Benjamin Franklin wasn’t a president, and it’s making me question the legitimacy of the other information you present… 😬

It’s rapidly becoming the ‘look at me me me, I’m Anthony’ show. Maddy is very good but is decreasingly getting a look in over the vacuous and shallow Delaney who talks more about himself than the topic in hand. It’s a shame because otherwise it’s an interesting idea. I’m just not sure how much...Read full review »

Absolutely love you guys! You really give me something to look forward too. Have you ever thought about doing a show on poltergeists?? Maybe about 30 east drive or the Enfield hauntings? Poltergeist’s tend really scare me.

Absolutely love this show. The hosts Maddy and Anthony are a delight, and have incredible banter/an incredible friendship. The fact that we get episodes every three days or so also means I don’t have to wait long to enjoy this show again. Please keep up the truly excellent work! Huge fan.

I’m enjoying this a ton; the only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because of the annoying overuse of “sort of” “kind of”. It’s distracting.

I found this show via Dan Snow’s. I loved the first few episodes but the more I listen, the more I’m beginning to doubt the academic clout of the presenters. Maddy and Anthony are lovely, smart amusing historians. However I can’t help but feel some confirmation bias and anachronistic application of modern social justice ruins the analysis, which often seems like ahistorical guess work. Wanted to love this podcast, but cohosts commentary on any topic is a consistent litany of their favorite stereotypes, things are phallic, or represent narrow views of modern thought on the past like everything being a didactic patriarchical treatise (even the children of woolpit and dragons)...Read full review »

Not the normal kind of stuff that I listen to, but I was running out and so decided to try something a bit different. Have to say that I’ve not been disappointed.
