Plainly profound
Alan Watts' mode of speech is concise, plain, poetic, straightforward and witty all at the same time, and he has a great timbre in his voice. His crystal words of insight into our Western attitudes, behaviour and religious beliefs are backed up with historical, psychological, philosophical and religious references. All this helps to clarify the profound points of view that he so wishes to share with the Western listener (or any listener for that matter) on the subjects of Zen, Buddhism and Hinduism - there is no 'smoke and mirrors' so to speak, apart from mentioning the 'play of smoke' that is this universe, and the 'mirror' state that your mind should be in when in meditation. These recordings can make highly enjoyable listening for all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds, there's wisdom to impart to each and everyone. Perhaps give your eyes a rest and listen to these recordings.Read full review »
