Giving God back to people
I stumbled across this podcast at the beginning of my journey out of fundamentalist conservative Christianity. The things I had been taught had caused so much damage in myself and in everyone I observed that I found myself saying that if this is who God is, I don’t want a thing to do with him anymore. This podcast has been instrumental in giving me a vocabulary to express the things that are wrong with current white American Christian teaching that I had felt but didn’t have the words to convey. It’s opened my eyes to how far back into history and how deeply into our collective subconscious bad theology is rooted, as well as why it’s bad and how to better recognize good theology. It’s tackled really troubling issues with such grace and respect to all sides, while still calling people to dig deeper and do better. It’s helped me see that there are other ways of reading the exact same passages I’ve read my entire life, and that maybe God is much bigger and more intricate and beautiful and life giving than I ever thought possible. The discussions you’ve had have been not only extremely informative, but also a very healing force in my deconstruction, and I can’t thank you enough for what you’re doing.

As a survivor of a destructive marriage, I’ve lived through bad church teachings on abuse. I’ve...Read full review »
