Food for thought on a great author
Gene Wolfe has been long overlooked by the academic establishment and it's difficult to understand why, for example, he isn't often taught or discussed in English departments. Neil Gaiman has called him the "smartest and most dangerous writer alive", Ursula Le Guin "our Melville". In this podcast, Philip Armstrong and Andrew Metzroth might be paving the way for a renaissance (or perhaps the genesis) of serious interest in some of the most powerful stories of our time. The pair are clearly great friends; their humor is infectious and adds a sense of fun to what might otherwise become a tedious listening experience. Their main focus is on working out what is going on in Wolfe's mazelike stories, and leading us as readers through what we can know at each point. My only criticism is that the earlier episodes in the series are a bit disorganized - but that is only to be expected in anything as pioneering as this. I recommend you become a listener of this podcast now while it's still underground and cool. Hurry up and subscribe before the New Sun comes and it's too late..Read full review »

Phil and Metz...Read full review »

I recommend this to any Wolfe fan or just sci fi fan in general. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed re-reading the stories and books with podcast’s commentary at my side. Also, the two guys end up adding a point of view that is relatable and fun. Something a deep dive on any Wolfe book certainly can gain...Read full review »
