AG has meant a lot to me, and this podcast has, too
If you grew up with the American Girl franchise, I cannot recommend this podcast enough. I completely love the hosts' interpersonal dynamic--they are humorous, intelligent, and entertaining to listen to. I feel like I've found a community of friends I didn't know I was missing. As someone who credits American Girl with sparking my love of history and historical material culture, but who also finds critical interpretation of the past to be valuable, I was struck by this quote from the fifth episode: "We're taking a critical lens of these books, but... we respect the fact that [American Girl] got us on a path where we could look at the books this way." I think this sums up the show nicely: there is so much love for this franchise and everything it meant to all of us, and yet the podcast takes it seriously enough to apply healthy critique when warranted. I cannot wait to hear the hosts dive into the rest of the books (with apropos asides on cults, true crime, '90s pop culture, British monarchy, astrology, historical sites, museums, current events, and more)! Allison and Mary, please be my friend!Read full review »

This podcast unpacks everything 9 year old you never noticed when Meeting Felicity for the first time and lays it out in a real way...Read full review »
