“I grew up an American soccer fan just two years older than Freddy, so I remember the hype around him. Mostly I remember wondering if this would finally make soccer relevant in America, as I’d always wished it would be. So far for me the most insightful moment of the podcast has been the sound byte from Alecko Eskandarian- that whole situation reeks of adults mismanaging a young kid’s career. Before Freddy had even had a chance to meet his teammates, management was rubbing them the wrong way by making an exception for Freddy. Talk about setting him up for failure.
