Freddy was let down by the adults around him
I grew up an American soccer fan just two years older than Freddy, so I remember the hype around him. Mostly I remember wondering if this would finally make soccer relevant in America, as I’d always wished it would be. So far for me the most insightful moment of the podcast has been the sound byte from Alecko Eskandarian- that whole situation reeks of adults mismanaging a young kid’s career. Before Freddy had even had a chance to meet his teammates, management was rubbing them the wrong way by making an exception for Freddy. Talk about setting him up for failure. Anyways I love the show, love your content Grant.

I have always liked Grant Wahl’s love, enthusiasm, and knowledge for soccer at every level of play. To hear him speak to Freddy Adu about his life and career like life long friends having a conversation in the backyard is fantastic stuff. Can’t wait to hear the rest of it.

So looking forward to the rest of this... Episode 1 was fantastic. Plus, for my money Grant Wahl is the best soccer journalist in North America, so anything he does is worth my (your?) attention. Thanks, Grant!
