Amazing Look into an Interesting Story
I was only 12 when Adu was signed by DC United and even though I had no interest in soccer, I remember hearing about Freddy Adu. Living in the US, if you had any interest in sport, it seems that Adu was the big next thing and Grant Wahl dives into how that spotlight on a 14 year old phenom came to be. Great storytelling and definitely recommend this podcast. My favorite moment so far came in episode two with the story about Freddy wanting number 11 when signing with DC United. I loved the initial take from Alecko Eskandarian, who was being asked to give up his jersey number, and how the rest of the team was on his side. It was made a big deal, but when the two players finally met, I loved hearing about how Alecko thought Freddy was great, cheerful, and immediately joked about how he’d have to take the number 9 shirt. It really gave some good perspective on how Freddy was just a kid living his dream and not taking everything too seriously – he was there to have fun.

Glad Freddy Adu finally has the opportunity to tell his story. Wahl provides great insight into this story and hopefully other avoid this same path. Still proud of Adu!

My favorite part of this podcast so far is the Eskandarian story about jersey numbers. Who knew? This podcast has given me all the nostalgic feelings. Grant...Read full review »

Grant Wahl coming through again! My favorite part was the bit about the struggle to watch soccer back in the early 2000s. Now you can catch the U17 WC on YouTube but I remember hunting down “game casts” back in the day.
