“I was 8 when Freddy Adu took the world by storm at 13 years old. As a soccer player myself I was fascinated by the thought of a child only a few years older than me going pro. I wanted to be like him and play with my hometown Metrostars. It’s great hearing Freddy’s story from humble beginnings in Africa to playing against professionals like Jeff Agoos who was over 20 years older than him. Grant Wahl does a great job interviewing Freddy and the people who were around him during his rise to fame. My favorite part (so far) is learning about how improbable Freddy’s journey really was. His family participated in an immigration lottery, and was a part of less than 1% that received citizenship through the lottery. Had the family not come to America, who knows what would have happened. I definitely recommend all sports fanatics give this a listen!”
