a multi-faceted look at an easily flattened subject
I appreciate the attention to detail and top-notch producing here that make it possible to really absorb the stories of these women as they tell them. The legacy of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders is complicated, and it would be all too easy to make this story fit one narrative—they were empowering, they were exploited, they were wholesome, they were corrupting, etc. Of course it’s not that simple, and this podcast doesn’t let you think it is—plus you learn a whole lot about the history of cheer, and Dallas, and American society’s view of women in the 1970s.

Love this podcast! Well researched, engaging, insightful, all around great. I love the host’s perspective and her thoughtful approach. She does a great job giving the women space to tell their stories and bringing the listener in for an interesting look behind the curtain.
