secularity & republic is his one-track mind
It only takes a couple of minutes into Kagan's Introduction when I was shocked and incredulous at false statements with which he shovels into freshman minds: "the Greeks had no priests" he says - false: if the citizen went to the temple of athena, dionysis or other GODS, they were met by various priests and priestesses, many of whom you were to have intercourse with. Which belies his second false statement, that the Greeks had no religion. He continues (something I'm not going to do, for Yale shouldn't allow such blatantly false "scholarship" to pass muster. "The Greeks had no royalty" - FALSE AGAIN. What would King Agamemnon and the King of Sparta have thought of this? He's really referring to a limited portion of Athenian history when he says the Greeks were republican. I really think Yale better revive these lectures: they are one big, false JOKE!

yes, we got to hear all about the polis and the hoplites, but this guy has some serious throat clearing going on. It sounds like he's hocking a loogie every three minutes, and it's seriously distracting.
