Selfless/Selfish ep w/ Kristen Bell
I'm not sure where else to write about this :D So, about the selfless/selfish thing: I have social anxiety and it used to be A LOT worse, meaning any interaction with another human being would make me feel terrible about myself. But I would still talk to homeless people and buy them food and try to talk people out of suicide or even simple things like telling my mum I'm okay even though just picking up my phone made me feel sick. I would say those acts were selfless, they definitely did not make me feel good about myself at all. My motivation came from seeing what they needed, and responding accordingly. However: I don't think selflessness is at all the goal. You need to be selfish to be at all healthy. Being selfish means taking care of yourself, and in that you will make people around you feel better, just by being around you. And you will be able to do more good, because you have double motivation! It's natural to want to make people who suffer feel better, and you also have the motivation to make yourself feel better! So, this balance, I think, is the real key. Obviously don't be completely selfish. Don't buy golden bath tubs. But complete selflessness SUCKS. So, I think, the goal is to move in between selfless and selfish, and always have a little bit of both. Great pod!!! And wonderful idea!!!Read full review »

I’m only two episodes in, but I am very pleasantly surprised by this one! I love Dax, but I’ve always viewed him as the funny guy. The episode with Kristen was very deep and insightful and I actually took notes (nerd alert) and loved every second of it.

Loved the first three episodes! The fact that a male is being so open about ALL of the things in life is refreshing, honest, and endearing. Been a fan of Dax for a long time, but this podcast just gave me one more reason. Guests so far as well have been entertaining, especially loved the episode...Read full review »
