Jason and Bjarni joined me to talk about some useful turfgrass math, especially  the turfgrass growth ratio, which you can read more about at https://www.asianturfgrass.com/tag/growth-ratio/ Find more infomation at PACE Turf: https://www.paceturf.org/ And at the ATC website: https://www.asianturfgrass.com/

For the third consecutive autumn, Chris Tritabaugh joined me to review the OM246 (total organic material by depth) test results from the greens at Hazeltine National Golf Club. We discussed playing conditions, maintenance work, and testing. Here are some links. Richard Forsyth is the director of courses at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. We discussed playing conditions, maintenance work, and grass types in relation to production of firm putting surfaces. Chris Tritabaugh and Doug Soldat also spoke about putting green firmness in this podcast: https://open.substack.com/pub/ctunderscoreturf/p/doug-soldat A note about soil surfactants: https://www.asianturfgrass.com/post/what-do-wetting-agents-really-do/ Read more about all kinds of turfgrass topics at...

Dr. Roch Gaussoin, professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, joined me to discuss cultivation of golf course turf, sand topdressing, soil organic matter testing, and the topic of soil organic matter/material management in general.

Total organic material testing (OM246) can be used to calibrate the amount of sand and cultivation required to produce high performance putting surfaces. Chris Tritabaugh and I discussed the most recent results from tests conducted at Hazeltine National Golf Club.

Jackie Guevara did an experiment that compared no P or K fertilizer, those elements as recommended by MLSN, and those elements as recommended by SLAN. The results? MLSN and SLAN were both better than nothing. But MLSN used a lot less fertilizer.

Carl is a competitive golfer and a turfgrass researcher. We had a long conversation about the topic of playability of surfaces. What is it, how is it measured, can it be measured, and how might it be managed.

Total organic material by depth (#OM246) measurements have been made at Keya GC for six years. We discussed these results and how the organic matter has remained constant over time despite minimal sand topdressing and only 1 hollow-tine aerification in six years.

Doug Soldat joined me to discuss tissue tests for turfgrass, and how we might make use of them (or not) to make decisions about fertilizer.

Chris Tritabaugh joined me to discuss his recent blog posts about what putting green disruption is, and how he has been working to minimize it through measurement of green speed and green smoothness and trueness.

Larry Stowell joined me to discuss the temperature-based turfgrass growth potential --- where it comes from and how it is used. We also discussed a bit about MLSN and the interaction of GP with MLSN.

Ben Brace and I discussed how we expect MLSN to work for Poa annua, and if there might be some differences compared with creeping bentgrass. We discussed biostimulants, soil sampling, potassium and stress, phosphorus and bentgrass vs. Poa competition, and much more.

Tom Cook led the turfgrass program at Oregon State University for 31 years and was my professor for many turfgrass classes when I was a student there in the 1990s. Tom studies what grows in lawns, and how the starting conditions, and the management practices, influence what the lawn turns out to be sometime in the future. We discuss this, and golf course turf, in this episode.

Chris Tritabaugh, the golf course superintendent at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota, discuss an OM246 report for samples collected in October 2021. This is total organic material by depth, and knowing the results of this test provide valuable information to optimize golf course playability while ensuring one is applying just the right amount of sand.
