Excellent Format
Max, This podcast is consistently high quality in sound engineering and topic formatting. You've clearly studied with care this art form for message delivery. A suggestion, the music between topics could be a touch shorter and could benefit from more musical variety between segments. Also, once in a while there are segments that could have benefited from a more selective editing. For example, my VFR student pilot wife said that she could handle one or two items from the updated world of new avionics available to pilots, but more than two similar topics in a row and she is looking for the advance 15 seconds button to see what is next. My personal favorite topics are practical questions you answer about flying, navigating or communicating. And reluctantly, I benefit from hearing about accidents and what people do and can do to prevent them or recover from calamity. My special interest as an IFR student, are topics that lift the veil of mystery around how ATC works behind the scenes. I'd love to hear a segment where you interview a controller. E.g. 90% of the time I feel like ATC prefers to have me on Flight Following and the engagement is two-way productive (i.e. I get a second set of eyes and they can talk with me to move me around as needed to help them. Also, once I helped relay a message to a plane that ATC could not raise to get them onto a Center frequency. There is almost no downside, in my opinion, to being on Flight Following, even for local hops around the busy airspace near IAH and HOU here in Houston.) I'll admit that I had to pause and collect myself on one of your podcasts. The hardest few minutes was listening to that twin engine plane in a distress associated with the ATC awards in one of your earliest shows. I got a little choked up imagining that we were hearing the last words of this pilot. I would have preferred if you'd started the segment with, "what you are about to hear is disturbing, but in the end the pilot made it out alive. Listen for xyz and I'll discuss more in a minute" That would have been appreciated, at least by me. I find it hard, but necessary to remind myself all the time that what we do as GA pilots is safe, but potentially deadly. I recommend the show to all of my pilot and soon-to-be-pilot pals, and I have listened to all of your shows and look forward to more! Keep up the great work! Quite impressed with Max's ability to come right out of the gate with such a strong podcast - right from the first episode. His time on radio in the past, combined with 3 years with the Geeks clearly prepared him well for this gig. Great balance of content and training, and I love that...Read full review »

I've been listening to Airplane Geeks for a while and just started to binge AviationNewsTalk during a quiet day at work. As a student pilot I appreciate the focus on GA news and tips to safe and fun flying! Keep up the great work! Ted P. Claymont DERead full review »
