“I listen to this podcast every week unless there is a developer interview (the audio quality on those are pretty bad) and for the most part, I enjoy the podcast. Kat Bailey is a favorite editor of mine and we share the same opinions on many games. I like her insight a lot. The problem is Nadia Oxford, which is nice and has a lovely voice that projects well, but her lack of knowledge on topics is just too much. Her RPG knowledge is primarily limited to either Dragon Quest or the Mana games, anything else has a 90% chance of being replied with "I have not played that yet" when asked. This is not a knock on her personally, but when co-hosting an RPG podcast it would be nice to have someone that has actually played more RPGs. As a result, most episodes resort to Kat talking about games almost on her own and being replied with "mhmm" or "that would be bad" "yeah" or "sure" or if you are lucky, you might get a "I had a friend who played it" but no complimenting arguments. She also has not seen famous anime even people that are not into anime have seen (also does not like space sci-fi or steampunk, among other genres). In many ways, it reminds me of when I was a kid and would talk excitedly about a game with my mom and she would reply with "uh huh, that's great" in her best intention to make me feel heard but at the same time not having a clue what I was saying. At times, it feels Kat is running the podcast by herself. The best moments are when Bob Mackey or recently Jeremy Parish would join the cast because then you would get some actual conversations between the hosts going on. Again, I love Kat and I have nothing personal against Nadia, she is a very lovely person, but her lack or knowledge and minimum aportation to the episodes hurt my enjoyment of the podcast greatly. At least she finally got a vita and will play Persona 4, that's a solid start. Hopefully she can start playing more RPGs so she can bring more to the podcast's conversations.
Recent example (going by memory, don't quote me 100%):
Nadia: "There are a bunch of american devs supporting the 3DS"
Kat: "oh yeah? like who?"
Nadia: "uhh, like Jack and Joe and I don't know *nervous laugh*"”Read full review »
