“I have really enjoyed Bad People, the previous series had such interesting insights by Julia with Sophie coming at it from a layman’s perspective. It was very open and a safe space, I was thrilled to hear it was returning.
However, I’m not sure if was the topic or the way it was presented, I felt this episode had a sensationalist aspect to a very sad case. From the start there was a judgemental attitude. The podcast was called Bad People because it was about humans having the capacity at times to do bad things but it might not make them inherently bad. That was why Julia, as the criminal psychologist, would present a case to Sophie for an open & often non-judgmental discussion.
This episode I felt had lost that element of the podcast. It’s a very sad situation & it almost feels salacious that Amber was digging into the lives of the poor couple, rooting out tidbits that may not have been heard in court. It almost felt like victim blaming, the hard to listen to details of domestic violence, and the death of a man.
I will continue to listen in hopes that it will become less about victim blaming, salacious comments and less judgmental.”
