Speaking to my Soul
I just listened to your latest podcast. I wanted to share with you something I run into as an educator. I was a stay-at-home mother for most of my 20’s. I am now a preschool and Jr. Kindergarten teacher. I am currently finishing my Elementary Ed degree online. I have had a few parents or other adults, assume I am the teachers aid, or they seem surprised when they learn I am the lead teacher. I have grown up being the only women of color in the room A LOT. I am 32 years old and I feel I am finally figuring out how to deal with the feeling of being the “only”, in the room. The first step I am taking is finishing my degree, so I can get into the school district and be a presence for all kids but especially young kids of color. Growing up as a young Native American child, I never saw people who looked like me in the school system. Your work has really spoken to me. Thank you!
