Earnest, insightful storytelling
The best thing about Beginner is Misha's ability to weave together a relatable story (at least for me... I had to start from scratch in this country too) with ever insightful reflections about its meaning and impact on her life. Misha seeks that meaning out episode by episode, with authentic, complex yet easily digestible storytelling. At a moment in history where this country's quintessential diversity is under threat, Beginner is a beautiful and necessary glimpse into what it means to strive for belonging and acceptance, but never truly wanting to give up who you are and where you come from.
