There’s room for change.
As a fellow mother of three, I've been a dedicated BTB listener since its inception. Lately, I've noticed a shift in tone I feel compelled to address, particularly in the episode addressing the Bondi Massacre. Sophie's introduction was so tone deaf that it actually offended me. While I understand the intention behind her sharing personal struggles with anxiety and negative feedback, the timing and context was wholly inappropriate. Raising this off the back of a conversation about the mothers who were murdered was beyond disrespectful. Sophie's willingness to open up about her challenges is commendable, and it's important to recognise the validity of everyone's experiences, but it was a missed opportunity for her to show the audience that she’s NOT out of touch, and wait to address these issues at a more suitable time down the track. Her words detracted from the gravity of the discussion, and only reinforce the issue of tone deafness listeners have already been raising. While I've tried to overlook the sentiment among regarding Sophie's disconnect, I can now understand how it might affect the overall listening experience. In light of this, I echo the suggestions that introducing someone like Laksmi as a regular host would bring a refreshing dynamic to the show. Laksmi's grounded demeanour and charisma would complement Jayde's humour well and give a more balanced dynamic. The topics remain engaging, and the majority of guests are wonderful additions to the show. It's evident they put in considerable effort to deliver quality content to their audience, but Sophie’s contribution as a host is cringeworthy at times, and downright offensive at others. Overall, my intention here is to offer constructive feedback to enhance listeners experience and ensure the podcast continues to resonate with its audience.Read full review »
