One-sided presentation
I grew up in New Zealand while this case was playing out, so it has some personal interest for me. Throughout the podcast, author Martin van Beynen makes no attempt to disguise his own conclusion, and the largely one-sided evidence presented in the podcast certainly seems to make for a pretty clear-cut case. I'm not saying he's not right. But never the less, Bain was acquitted in his 2009 re-trial after one of the longest and most expensive court cases in NZ's history. It seems unfair that this part of the story is not covered in any depth. What were the jury's reasons for his acquittal? What did they know that we're not told? A more balanced presentation of both sides of the case, keeping as guessing as to the conclusion, would have made for a more compelling and interesting story!Read full review »
