Bias results in lack of credibility
A tragic and important story. That said, it leaves much to be desired from a journalist point of view. While I think Liz Flock is on the right track in many ways, it is clear from the start that she believes Deven’s story so strongly that — as a result — she does Deven a disservice by not investigating the pieces that don’t add up. There is plenty of evidence that the prosecutor botched the case… and that Alexis’s story isn’t credible… and that Deven was abused and acted in self defense… but because Liz comes in with such a strong bias in Deven’s favor, I ultimately am left feeling as if I haven’t heard the whole story.
