“I listen to a lot of book podcasts. I started listening to Book Riot because it filled a nice void of giving a lot of news about books, authors, publishing and reading. I like the format of the podcast. It’s well structured. The topics are always interesting. The audio quality is excellent and it’s easy to hear.
However, this podcast is very difficult at times to listen to. With some podcasts the hosts ramble on and on, and it’s the case with this podcast. Sometimes the hosts beat the topic to death. A 5 minute conversation is extended to 10 minutes when it’s not necessary. Also, I have discussed this with a lot of my other reader friends. Our biggest pet peeve is that Jeff is constantly interrupting or talking over Rebecca. I find that Rebecca has some very clear, concise, thoughtful ideas but Jeff talks over her by interrupting her or with a “yup” or a “nope”. When they talk at the same time you can’t hear either and it’s very distracting. Jeff also interrupts himself several times in a podcast and it takes several tried to complete a thought. Though the podcast is well structured overall, it feels very improvised when they are talking. Also, both Jeff and Rebecca are a little two agreeable. This is the problem of many podcasts. I’m sure both are friends and generally get along very well. However, that doesn’t always make for an interesting podcast. I would like a little more debate and banter.
Overall, this is a great podcast for book lovers. Often I will get most of my news from this podcast. I hope the hosts get a lot more practice and fine tune their techniques and discussions and then I’m sure they’ll have the best podcast in iTunes.”
