Trying to like it
I must say, I’m struggling to fall in love with this one. They spend a LOT of time just recapping the plot of the book/movie, usually jumping around and interrupting each other. Out of order. (For example, in the discussion of Gone Girl, they talked about the characters and subplots and background, and it was about 20 minutes into the podcast before they said “So the book opens on their anniversary and Amy is missing….”) They do a lot of “I can’t remember the guy’s name but I really like him” or “the director….his name escapes me at the moment…” Which seems weird. It seems that they would have notes in front of them or computers opened up to the IMDB page or something! Research is easy these days! Doris Kearns Goodwin became “What’s her name? Doris, Delores Goodwin…Kearns?” The Margos are fairly likable, though they repeat themselves a lot, but after listening to four episodes, I can’t say “I really enjoyed that!” It almost feels like sitting in an airport overhearing two women discuss books and movies. I don’t hate it, but so far, I don’t love it, either.
