I didn’t expect so much pointless pop culture nonsense.
I just listened to the Chuck Klosterman interview. I found it a little embarrassing to listen to two forty-something year old writers deconstructing Miley Cyrus’ and Lady Gaga’s authenticity as though it were somehow important or interesting. Ellis comes off as a narcissistic troll who obsesses over Twitter and slams other much respected authors. It’s actually a bit grotesque to hear him extolling the virtues of Miley and the Kardashians while he expresses contempt for J.D. Salinger, David Foster Wallace, and Alice Munro. I’m not sure if they’re completely serious when they discuss Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lawrence, et al or if they’re practicing some sort of meta-cultural criticism that’s over my head. Either way, I guess this podcast is not for me because I really can’t see the value in dissecting idiotic popular culture and celebrity. I don’t give a fig about that sort of stuff when there is quality art, writing, music, and film out there to be absorbing and discussing.

Great chat, great host and monologue, thought provoking and unafraid. I admire the honesty of the author in particular. Tarantino episode was a dream!

Great guests and conversations. I really love this podcast but the audio is a bit hard for me to stand. The way you compress the microphones is a bit distracting. The mic sounds over compressed as well as the release time being too fast thus that sorta pumping sound. Thanks for a great show...Read full review »
