Fascinating, scary, true story. Terrible commentary.
The actual story is terrifying and very well written and even the reading of it is good. But what is with the commentary? It is in really bad taste and demonstrates a poor understanding of how a story should be told. It takes a very serious event and tries to add “funny”, “lighthearted” commentary in between. It ruins almost every dramatic turn of events in the story. It’s like seeing a Chuckie Cheese commercial in the middle of the newscast about the approaching wild fire or a bomb attack. It not only ruins the story, it makes you lose interest exactly when you are supposed to reach the peak of the story. This kind of “light banter” works to a degree in stories like the one about Berlusconi. It really doesn’t work here.
