Love this podcast
I don’t remember studying about Byzantium in school (although I did learn about Constantine). I became interested 20 years ago when I traveled to Turkey. I felt the significance of the location the moment I arrived and wondered why I was so ignorant of its place in history. Luckily, we had a tour guide who was highly educated and bombarded us with history for two weeks. This excellent podcast provides details regarding many aspects of Byzantium/Eastern Rome - a significant empire that should be studied far more than it is. The content of this podcast is very high quality (refreshing for a podcast) and yet still very accessible. A friend is traveling to Turkey next month and I sent him the episode about the Hagia Sofia and it’s “wet” sound - I would have had much greater appreciation for the building if I had heard this episode before I visited it.
