Time to say goodbye
Time to say goodbye. It took a lot, as I really, really wanted to like the show. I have strong connections to the Canadian criminal justice system and Australia. I have listened to every single episode from Day 1 until the 2022 Darcy Allen Sheppard marathon. But that’s where it had to stop. Until then the good outweighed the bad. From the beginning you have had a very one-sided and biased understanding of certain social issues in Canada. You just seem to repeat the headlines as setting the stage for the facts of each case, when in reality those headlines rarely reflect reality. As a result, many of your episodes reek of empty excuses for certain people doing things instead of sticking to the facts of the case. Even some of your accusations about recent Canadian discoveries have little basis in actual fact, you are just repeating the sensationalist headlines. That approach was all over this Darcy Allen Sheppard case. I don’t know who paid you to devote so much time and effort to that narrative, but to the average listener, it was strange. Very strange. You went on and on about the case, repeating the same accusations over and over, as if hoping that if you said them often enough, people would start to believe them. Your shows until then had a recurring theme that certain people did not have to take any accountability for their actions (John made bad choice after bad choice but when the last day arrived, he was really not a bad guy). But for some reason, you were in a frenzy trying to convince people that Mr. Sheppard was blameless. You kept saying over and over “I am just being balanced and transparent”, when in fact you were the opposite – extremely biased to the point of sounding obsessive. There were so many contradictory things in that show that you glossed over, because you were determined to pretend that Mr. Sheppard was blameless. Clearly, that’s far from the truth and determined to prove that he should not be held accountable in any way. Obviously it’s sad that he died, but everyone can see that but for his own actions, he would not have. So many episodes trying to stretch out a straight forward situation into something it wasn’t. And good grief, the fascination with the female witness who didn’t get her moment in the limelight as a witness on the stand? Her statement was all over the place, it’s no wonder no one ever called her back. But I’m sure she’s happy she got her 10 seconds of fame on the show over and over again. Anyway, time to move on to another podcast that doesn’t have a misplaced social agenda.

I especially like the youth offenders episodes because as an American our criminal justice system treats youth who offend entirely...Read full review »

I really enjoy her discussion of the victims to shed light on who they were as people. It's an important aspect of the podcast. Also, Kristi's thank-yous are quite effective and so "Canadian" but also a smart tool to get people to write reviews and rate the podcast. Love this...Read full review »
