Description
🎙️Welcome back for episode 3 of CTRH Podcast, where we have real conversations that make an actual difference. Today, I’m hosting the formidable Janet Mbugua, a well renowned and respected media personality here in Kenya. She is also a Menstrual Justice advocate, an activist, author, global moderator, content creator and mum of two lovely boys. In this episode we discuss menstrual justice, explaining exactly what it means and the work being done to ensure that everyone (not just menstruators) has adequate and appropriate information on periods, access to products, sanitation and hygiene. We help to break down how injustices and infringements on human rights occur due to period shaming & stigma, delving into relevant current affairs in Kenya such as Senator Gloria Orwoba’s activism in Parliament and the Brown’s Cheese company period shaming incident. This episode aims to address period stigma and shaming head on to help change the narrative for our current and future generations. We ask important questions around patriarchy and even explore why women tend to be the worst offenders when it comes to period shaming. We highlight how institutions could take a positive stance by prioritizing workplace training and sensitization about menstruation. All in all a fantastic episode packed full of amazing insights and absolute gems for us all to take away. I urge EVERYONE to take some time to watch/listen to this episode, ESPECIALLY if you think it isn’t for you.
