Sn2 Ep5 | Exploring the male perspective on Kenya’s SGBV & Femicide Crisis with Rix Poet
Description
Welcome to another intense episode on CTRH Podcast.
*trigger warning for reference to various forms of violence.*
For this episode, I am joined by Onyango Otieno, aka Rix Poet and today we discuss GBV and Femicide from a male perspective. Recently, Kenya has been in the spotlight with a notable increase in Sexual and Gender Based Violence cases, with its extreme leading to an alarming number of Femicide cases. I am personally on a quest to try to understand just how things got so bad and how we can change the situation before it gets any worse.
I invited Rix to discuss exactly how we got here, from a male perspective. What role does our culture and upbringing play in what we are witnessing today? How did we arrive at a Kenya where fragile and toxic hetero-musculinity has become the norm? What role does Patriachy have to play in all this? How did we arrive at a positioning that plays out as anti-feminist? Is it too late for us to change the narrative or is there hope still for a better Kenya? Join us for what will certainly prove to be a jarring yet thought-provoking conversation.
