S 3 Ep 2 | Femicide in Kenya: “Stop killing us!” Young feminists speak up.
Description
Welcome to episode 2 of season 3 of Circling The Rabbit Hole podcast. Today, we tackle a very important yet difficult topic - Femicide in Kenya.
Now more than ever, existing as a woman is proving to be a danger in itself. From the horrifying gang rape and murder of the trainee doctor in Kolkata, India, to the to the unspeakable violation and killing of a seven-year-old girl in Ethiopia, not to mention our very own persistent SGBV & Femicide crisis in Kenya, being a woman today is to live in fear, knowing that it could easily be you next.
In this radical and unapologetic episode, I sit down with Zaha Indimuli, Maryliz Biubwa and Zawede Nzisa, who are representatives from the Young Women’s Leadership Institute (YWLI) Foundation, a trailblazing feminist organisation in Kenya. Together, we dive deep into the brutal realities of femicide, sexual and gender-based violence that plague our society, exposing the systemic misogyny that perpetuates these horrors.
This isn’t just a conversation; it’s a call to action. Join us as we discuss why more young women are leading the charge against gender oppression, where safe spaces for all women are a given, and where feminism isn’t just an ideology—it’s a survival strategy. Together, we explore what it means to be a feminist and why we feel the wrong people are leading conversations about harming women.
⚠️Trigger warning ⚠️ This episode addresses issues to do with domestic, gender based and intimate partner violence, sexual assault & murder. Please see drclairekinuthia.com for helpful resources if you or a loved one needs support dealing with similar issues.
