Empathy Good or Bad? Great Conversation, Bloom Didn't Convince Me.
Enjoyed this conversation, but in listening to Paul Bloom, some or much of what he has concluded seems to be influenced by HIS experience as a white, privileged male in American society. Just because he may not be moved by the suffering of a collected other in other countries or even in our country, doesn't mean we as human beings, in general or specifically, experience this in the same way. I listened carefully to his argument eager to be changed; there may be some value here, but I'm not convinced on the whole. I really appreciate Alan Alda's willingness to be changed, as well. My needle on this subject barely moved after the points Bloom made. Thanks for the great conversation, though...keep 'em coming, Alan!!!Read full review »
