On some days, your mind is sharp enough to see parallels between one thing and another, and create metaphors out of them. But on some days, even the most obvious metaphors do not light a fire in our heads.  today, I cannot write a metaphor about calm minds and clear skies © Sankara Jayanth, Coffee and Haiku You can read more of my haiku on twitter @coffeeandhaiku. I guess this happens to many people who aren't experts in cooking. I just can't get the quantity right. It will either be too little or too much. Same with soup. I buy readymade soup powders and I'm the only one who drinks soup in my house. So the sachet says "4 servings". Okayyyyy. So how much water do I need to put and how much powder and I end up cooking too much soup. to fight cold in haste i cook too much soup © Sankara Jayanth, Coffee and Haiku You can read more of my haiku on...

One day, working at home, I was busy enough to not realize that the sun has set and that night had fallen. What struck me most is that I was sitting opposite a window all day and the fading light did not pull my attention away from the laptop screen. I seldom have such concentration. lost in office work outside, the moon has claimed sky from the sun © Sankara Jayanth, Coffee and Haiku You can read more of my haiku on twitter @coffeeandhaiku. I am learning to create vivid images with #haiku. The sensory experience of reading haiku by Basho and Issa have had a great impact on my motivation to write haiku and on what type of haiku I want to write. In this episode, I read a haiku about a dragonfly, seemingly still on a leaf for sometime on a cold morning, taking off. dragonfly takes off its wing slaps a dew drop on the leaf © Sankara Jayanth, Coffee and Haiku You can read more of my haiku on twitter @coffeeandhaiku. When we see dark clouds gathering, we get a foreboding feeling and the first sign of it taking shape in reality, we anticipate, is to rain. But do dark clouds always mean rain?  dark and white clouds roll over each other — to rain, or not to rain. © Sankara Jayanth, Coffee and Haiku You can read more of my haiku on twitter @coffeeandhaiku.
