“If you are interested in the Middle East in any way this is an astonishingly brilliant podcast series. it’s hosted by Thomas Small, an American filmmaker and fluent Arabic speaker, and Aimen Dean. Thomas is incredibly well versed in all things to do with the Middle East but it is a Aimen who is the star of the show. He is an ex-Al Qaeda Jihadi who then became an MI6 double agent.
His knowledge about all things to do with the Middle East and Jihadi terrorism is quite astonishing. He has names and dates at his fingertips. He has met everybody on all sides including well-known terrorists, diplomats and politicians. What is interesting is that he is still in regular contact with these people. So instead of only getting one viewpoint (for example just the Palestinians or just the Israelis) he also has close contact with Hamas! I take a really close interest in the Middle East and I’ve never ever come across someone with such astonishing knowledge.
This podcast was recommended to me only a week or so ago and I decided to start at the beginning. The podcasts go back to 2019 and I totally recommend beginning at the beginning because every one is full of utterly brilliant information.
They are also pretty evenhanded. I guess the one thing to say is that they loathe Jihadi terrorism. However they are more than willing to be fiercely critical of Arab rulers, Israeli government, the Americans and all sorts of different players on the international stage. If you want to understand what the Middle East is all about, listen to this podcast. It is amazing!”
