I started listening shortly after the events on October 7 2023. I have always searched for a “neutral source” to help explain the simmering molten lava that is the Middle East. I did not want to listen to more of the same garbage we’ve been fed over the decades. What grabbed my interest in this...Read full review »

I have listened to a number of episodes and in particular the so called emergency episode on the events of Oct 7 and I am extremely dismayed to hear the hosts parroting reports of babies being beheaded and rape being used as a tactic of the Hamas and other militants prior to there having been any...Read full review »

I honestly been listening to this podcast for years. I have accepted that I do not always agree with the host view of the situation. I often disagreed but still appreciated their willingness to engage with each other and their audience. During the last few months, Aimen has turned into a true...Read full review »

The podcasts contents are great, no doubt. Only 2 stars due to the introduction of paid “community” episodes. I listened the latest episode for 10 minutes and was interrupted that I need to join their “community“ which is a nice way of saying pay us 5$ per month for what was offered for free before.

Education as it should be - great way to learn thanks to the knowledge and chemistry of the hosts! The historical information combined with the latest and current developments really broaden the knowledge of the Middle East

I used to listen to this show religiously (pun slightly intended) and readily signed up as a subscriber especially for the ad-free perk. Unfortunately, the subscriber podcast has become pervasive with advertising and the episodes are few and far between. Would love to support again if this can be...Read full review »

Likeable hosts. Good chemistry. The story behind the story. A dense tapestry of geopolitics, history and ideology woven together with a thread of humour and humanity

Don’t listen to the weirdo pro-Hamas reviews, this podcast is educational and insightful if you’re willing to accept factual information. Devastated it’s going to be behind a paywall now.

If you are interested in the Middle East in any way this is an astonishingly brilliant podcast series. it’s hosted by Thomas Small, an American filmmaker and fluent Arabic speaker, and Aimen Dean. Thomas is incredibly well versed in all things to do with the Middle East but it is a Aimen who is...Read full review »

Aiken Dean is the Arab version of an Unvle Tom, this is a completely Israeli/western perspective being pushed forward by Israeli puppets. Worst podcast about the Middle East I have yet to hear. Negative stars I’d possible

If you actually want to learn about the Middle East and not just engage in mindless moralizing, invest the time to listen to this podcast. It is time very well spent.

The takes on Palestine have been painful to listen to. Some interesting perspective, but lacking compassion and the solutions presented are simply fantasy and wishing for a return to a past that will never return. Sad to unfollow this show.

Brilliant, learnt much. Really enjoying.

Such a pity this great show has double standards when it comes to Palestine. Clearly, it is frightened of the Zionist lobby. When the presenter spoke of how sickening it was to think of what might happen to the Jews but literally nothing for the Palestinians it was sadly and dismally obvious we...Read full review »

I would give this 5 stars if it was Aimen Dean alone on the podcast. He provides a factual, well researched analysis of modern history in the Middle East in a way that beginners in the world of geo-politics can understand. Thomas Smalls on the other hand, while very knowledgeable, comes off...Read full review »

I listened to “What was Hamas Thinking” when many of us, im sure, we’re trying to more wholly understand the history of Israel and Palestine. I was genuinely horrified by the lack of humanity and compassion offered to Palestinians in the episode, as well as the reporting of unverified (and later...Read full review »

I've listened so far with great enthusiasm. And learned a lot. Selective generosity in criticisms against Palestinians and condescending view making me leave this show. I don't trust your conscience anymore. So long co-host.Read full review »

As an international relations and history graduate with work experience in journalism and international politics, I can happily write that Conflicted is amongst the best non-BBC programmes out there. Exceptionally well researched and very, very enlightening. Well done to all and my sincere thanks.

I recommend this podcast to anyone looking to grow their knowledge of the Middle East. An orthodox Christian and a former jihadi don’t sound like the perfect pair for a podcast, but they are.

I have binged listened the entire podcast and now am going back and dissecting each episode. So good!! And just like Aimen said: relax and try to listen! Totally agree with Aimen about what secularism in Islamic predominant countries could be. Western secularism as a template for every society is unworkable and just arrogant.

Journalism and accountability at their finest. Aimen has an extraordinary ability to deliver his fascinating stories, and Tom has the absolute best questions and follow up commentary.

Thank you both for your informed, concise and entertaining discussions. As an Irish man living in Riyadh for many years, this podcast has given me a real understanding of the Gulf region and the Western and the relationships between them. Can’t wait for season four. Best wishes, Colin
